I've been taking some maternity leave. I didn't intend to, in fact I thought I was getting back into the swing of writing again. I had a good routine going, my word count was increasing and I was developing my cake blog and back writing book reviews.
But then a short while ago I had a bad week.
I never expected the negative feelings to hit me with such rip roaring force. They crept up on me as I was walking to school. Waiting in the shadows, ready to pounce. Then, as I was making the return trip home, they hit me. Right smack in the stomach. Leaving me winded and anxious for days.
The feeling, I am glad to say, was only temporary and I'm now jolly happy. Or happy and jolly (caffeine helps). I'm still knackered as daughter is a little poorly and there are other things that are making life a little fraught at times, but my state of mind is fine.
So I'm not focusing on work and writing and instead I've told myself to do it when I feel like it. Obviously I feel like it today which is why I feel I can write this post. Who knows where it will lead to. I may start back on my novel, or LSJ course, or just stick to the blog. Or I may do nothing. See? No pressure.
I'm glad you spotted it, accepted it, acted upon it and are now feeling happier. You've no rush to get back to it. You will start writing again because you won't be able to help yourself. In the meantime, enjoy this precious time.
(Are you coming at the weekend?)

Sorry to hear about the bout of anxiety, but I'm glad you're taking care of yourself and feeling better. It's great to see you on here, but don't feel rushed to hurry back. Enjoy this time with your little one.

the only way i can write consistently is with no pressure. if i pressure myself, i can't do it any more and cannot even begin to enjoy it.
i'm so glad it was just a glitch and that you're happy again now :)

I'm glad you're taking a sensible approach & not beating yourself up when you don't get chance to blog/write. Being mum to a baby is bloomin hard work & a full time job. Pat yourself on the back & know you're doing a great job.
Hope little one feels all better soon.
Kat :-)
